SUMMARY:Rotawalk'24
DESCRIPTION:Join us on 28th April 2024 for the RotaWalk’24\, organised by the Rotary in Dorking\, to raise much-needed funds for The Patchworking Gardens Project. \n \nThis two-hour walk (four miles) follows the all-weather Circular Trail around Holmwood Common which is suitable for all ages and easily negotiated with push-chairs and mobility scooters. \nDirections and Joining Instructions are below along with a few notes that might help you prepare for the walk. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere is the Start/Finish for the walk?\nWe will be pitching our gazebos on the Old Cricket Ground at North Holmwood (grid ref: TQ 169 468) which is just a short walk from either the National Trust car park on Inholms Lane or up the track that runs alongside St John’s Church.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nComing by car?\nUse postcode RH5 4JH on your satnav.  The entrance to the National Trust car park is at the sharp bend by the Sports Club on Inholms Lane. \n\nParking.  There is first-come-first-served parking in the National Trust car park and so please let us know if you have any special needs for parking. Once the car park is full then it is possible to park along the roadside of Inholms Lane and Spook Hill.\nPlease consider car-sharing if at all possible or\, even better\, might you be able to walk to the Start/Finish?\nThere will be a couple of marshals to assist with parking but please note that all parking is at your own risk.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen can we start the walk?\nThe first departures will be at 10:00am.  After that\, walkers will set off as soon as they have completed the simple registration formalities to ensure their safety.   \nThe latest time for departure will be 3:00pm at which time the organisers will be sending out a ‘tail-end’ marshal to ensure that all walkers have safely completed the course.  \nCan we bring our dog?\nWell behaved dogs are welcome but it is the owners responsibility to keep their dogs under close control at all times.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWill we need hiking boots?\nMost of the route follows the gravel-surfaced Circular Trail around Holmwood Common and so we suggest comfortable stout shoes or trainers.
The weather forecast for Sunday looks good but there’s always the possibility of showers\, so we recommend that you wear suitable clothing or maybe bring an umbrella! \nThere is one short section where the route departs from the Circular Trail in order to visit Fourwents Pond\, crosses King’s Meadow\, and then rejoins the Circular Trail via an easy footpath.  For those wishing to avoid this section\, such as those riding mobility scooters\, an alternate ‘easy’ route will be signposted.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat about refreshments?\nWe know that many walkers will bring their own drinks but there are two en-route checkpoints where you can pause to enjoy the scenery and enjoy a cold drink … there may even be some home-made cake.  Have you thought about bringing a picnic? \nThe refreshments that are being provided at the checkpoints have all been donated by various local home cake-makers.  This means that we cannot be certain of the exact ingredients of every cake.  If you\, or anyone in your group\, has particular dietary requirements or restrictions then please be aware that it must be your responsibility to be suitably cautious.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAre there toilets?\nThere are no toilets on Holmwood Common but portable toilets are being installed at Fourwents Pond and Inholms.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLooking after you\nWhen you register we will check that we have the correct mobile phone number for at least one person in your group.  You will be given a leaflet with the phone number of our Walk Controller to call if you find yourself in difficulties and\, of course\, there will be marshals at each of the checkpoints.  In addition a professional first-aider team will be stationed at the Start/Finish.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt the end of the walk\nWhen you return to the Start/Finish please make sure that you ‘ check out’ so that we don’t worry that you are lost on Holmwood Common!. \nIMPORTANT. If for some reason you\, or anyone in your group\, should decide to curtail your walk and not return to the Start/Finish then you MUST contact the Walk Controller on the number provided in the leaflet that you will be given at the start of the walk.  If you do not check back in at the Finish then we may be required to institute a time-consuming search for you!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRaising money\nPlease make a pledge or donation on our JustGiving page here to take part in the walk. \nEvery contribution\, no matter the size\, will help us reach our target and ensure that Patchworking Gardens Project continues to flourish. \nPlease also share the JustGiving page with your friends and family and encourage them to support you in the walk by making their own pledges or donations. \nYou can also make a donation to ‘The Patchworking Garden Project’ at our gazebo by cheque\, cash\, or credit card on the day.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnjoy the walk\nWe hope you enjoy the walk\, it looks like it’s going to be a lovely day!  \nDon’t forget to come and say hello at our gazebo\, and thank you for supporting The Patchworking Garden Project!
