Amazingly our magical Patchworking Garden Project will have its 10th birthday in 2025! When our founder Carmel first walked round Dorking looking for a space to start a garden, I don’t think even she could imagine what we have become.
With vision, commitment and a lot of volunteer hours a derelict space has become a safe place offering friendship, fun, new skills; a space where people, plants and crafts can flourish.
Several hundred individuals have used the garden, many of those finding comfort and often a new energy and sense of purpose. Our Academy has developed student skills so they can run their own businesses, find employment, restart their education or enjoy other volunteering opportunities.
Inevitably it hasn’t always been straightforward and of course Covid was a huge challenge, but we have amazing local support, fabulous volunteers who give many hours every week both in the garden and behind the scenes and financially we have been very fortunate indeed.
We’ll tell you more of our story over the next few months but in the meantime we are looking for two special people to help us:
10th Anniversary coordinator
If you have the time, energy and expertise to join us for about 15 months from October 2024-December 2025 to lead our anniversary celebrations we would love to hear from you. We have ideas, energy and experience but need someone dedicated to this role for a few hours each week..
Trustee for communications
If you’d like to be one of our Trustees and have great experience in comms/marketing/networking we’d also like to hear from you. You’d be joining a well-established Trustee Board and would pick up the work started by our first Trustee in this role who’s had to step down due to having lots of commitments to juggle.
If you’d like to have a chat to find out more please contact our Chair Isobel Gowan isobelg@patchworkinggardenproject.co.uk.
